Selkie proudly presents the regional premiere of CASA VALENTINA, the funny, provocative and touching new play by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. CASA VALENTINA lights up Bethlehem’s Ice House from May 6 – May 15, 2016.
In 1962, most men went to the Catskill Mountains to escape the summer heat, but others took the drive to escape something else entirely: being men. Nestled in the land of borscht belt comedy sat "Casa Valentina", a discreet bungalow resort that catered to a very special clientele: heterosexual men whose secret passion was dressing and behaving as women. It was paradise for these men—white-collar professionals with wives & families—to spend their weekends discreetly inhabiting their chosen female alter egos, without the fear of judgement or exposure.
But when challenged to go public in the pursuit of political acceptance, these “self-made women” have to decide whether that freedom is worth the risk of personal ruin.
Infused with Fierstein’s trademark wit and humor, CASA offers a glimpse into the lives of a group of unforgettable characters as they search for acceptance and happiness in their very own Garden of Eden.
CASA, a 2014 Tony Award nominee for Best Play, premiered at NYC's Manhattan Theatre Club. Selkie Director George B. Miller's ensemble cast features Joshua Altorfer, Jim Long, Ryan MacNamara, Jeanie Olah, David Oswald, Rosie Damico Schatkowski, Jerry Schmidt, Ted Williams, and Goran Zdravkovic.
CASA runs at the Charles Brown Ice House on Sand Island in Bethlehem from May 6-15, Friday & Saturday at 8, Sunday at 3. Tickets: $20, $15 student/senior. Tickets, media comps & more info: theatreselkie@gmail.com or 484-212-1804.
